Graduate Trainee Accountant (ACA) - Brebners
Brebners is a 19 partner firm of Chartered Accountants and business advisors based in central London, with additional offices in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells.
We are looking to recruit a number of graduates for our 2017 intakes, who aspire to become Chartered Accountants. We have high standards and are looking for candidates with excellent academic qualifications as well as drive, ambition and a thirst for success.
In return, you’ll enjoy a competitive salary and an excellent package (with salary increases based on exam and work performances). There is also huge potential to progress within the firm. Add to this the opportunities and varied lifestyle that working in the Capital has to offer and it all adds up to a very rewarding opportunity.
We are large enough to have experts able to provide advice across almost all accountancy and tax matters, whilst we still ensure the personal touch is maintained. Almost all of our senior staff have worked at Brebners for many years, and wherever possible there will be continuity of the staff servicing client needs.
Our clientele is extremely varied, ranging from multinational corporations to small businesses needing support skills and experience in many fields.
Past students have gone on to become finance directors of public companies, partners in professional practices and used their knowledge to set up and run their own non-professional businesses. Whichever direction you choose, we feel that the training given here should give you a sound base from which to expand your knowledge and achieve your goals.
We are looking for mature, numerate and intelligent students who are willing to work hard, study hard and play hard. Above all, you will need to have the flexibility to adapt to a variety of challenging situations and the communication skills to express ideas and deal with clients at all levels.
You will need:
- 2:2 degree or above in ANY subject.
- A minimum of 300 UCAS points (old UCAS tariff) or 120 UCAS points (new UCAS tariff) or equivalents, from your top three grades (first attempts only). AS levels and General Studies are not accepted.
- GCSE English Language, grade C or above.
- GCSE Maths, grade B or above.
Don’t forget that your academic qualifications are not enough on their own. We’re looking for articulate, confident, intelligent graduates with a range of transferable skills. Accountancy is a people-focused profession. Numeracy is expected, but you must also be able to communicate confidently with colleagues and clients, as well as being able to organise yourself and your workload; balance the competing demands on your time; and take personal responsibility for the development of your career.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE ICAEW (ACA) QUALIFICATION
Training contracts are typically 3 years and include an excellent package, which leads to the ICAEW (ACA) Chartered Accountant qualification.
Studying for the exams is managed by SWAT UK (a leading training organisation in the profession and a company founded by a number of medium sized firms to provide full time internal training facilities).
Paid study leave is granted and your course and examination fees are paid for first attempts. External tutors are employed to provide the course materials and study packs for homework and full time interim and final revision courses taken prior to each professional examination.
Every six months, progress is formally monitored and reviewed by the training partner. Your study records (both of work experience and examinations) will be discussed with you and targets set for the future. The variety and level of work provided by the firm is planned in conjunction with the progress made in academic studies and previous experience.
Clearly, in a period where a little over two years training for graduates is dedicated to practical work, it is not possible to provide experience on all of our clients. However assignments in general would not exceed three weeks and this enables greater variety of experience. Additionally where a client is of sufficient size we endeavour to ensure that trainees have experience on that specific client at junior, semi senior and senior levels.
THE BENEFITS OF TRAINING WITH A MEDIUM-SIZE FIRM
Qualification with a medium sized firm opens up a wide spectrum of employment, not only within the firm, where partnership is of course a possibility.
Professional practices of all sizes welcome candidates with very good accounting experience matched by knowledge of large firm audit techniques and a large exposure to different types of business. In larger firms, trainees often spend much of their training confined to audit work because of the sheer scale of audit work. Audit work is just one small aspect of an assignment and in a medium size firm such as Brebners, you can benefit from having exposure to many different areas of client work, such as accountancy and tax.
With a medium size firm, you’ll also benefit from involvement from the firm’s Partners, who will take a direct interest in your development and support you through your training.
