We are seeking an Operational Risk Officer to implement and monitor UTB’s Operational Risk Framework as well as ensure that Operational Risk is well understood across the business and provide operational risk oversight across all Business Units and activities of UTB.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Risk Control Self-Assessment

  1. Work with the CRO to organise a UTB’s Risk Control Self-Assessment programme (RCSA) and help define key controls to mitigate the risks identified
  2. Categorise specific risks (inherent and residual) using UTB’s defined risk ratings
  3. Oversee and challenge the 1st line of defence on the effective management of its risks

    Risk Register and Incident Analysis

  4. Maintain UTB’s risk register and risks identified within business units
  5. Analyse incidents that occur and perform root cause analysis and monitor mitigation actions

    Policies and Procedures

  6. Evaluate and agree with the CRO the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes and internal controls throughout the operational risk assessment process
  7. Support the implementation and oversight of operational risk policy, procedures, practices and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance
  8. Update and maintain UTB’s operational risk policies as required

    Management Information

  9. Support the development and maintenance of management information, analysis and reporting that enables and informs timely and effective business management and decision making
  10. Ensure risk mitigation measures and risk indicators that have been agreed with the CRO are in place for identified risks

    Monitoring and Reporting

  11. Assist the business with the development of remediation plans that address process or control gaps and track the progress of action plans to ensure timely resolution
  12. Provide input and challenge to the business’s risk monitoring and reporting
  13. Monitor QA results, Key Indicator reporting, and issue remediation to evidence control performance and ongoing monitoring

    Operational Risk Training

  14. Train new staff on operational risk and the use of RCSA workshops

    Skills and Competence:

    Basic requirements:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas– regulatory, compliance, audit.
  • Experience in operational risk management including the identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of operational risks or internal audit experience
  • Ability to analyse banking products, systems, procedures and processes and identify potential risks
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in financial services

Suitable academic or vocational training/ Technical Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with the Basle Committee operational risk requirements
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver results within agreed deadlines
  • Strong organization and analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services and regulatory trends impacting UTB
