Job Description

The position we are offering presents a great opportunity for an ICAEW apprentice starting off in their career in professional practice by joining a small established boutique accountancy practice in North London.

We are looking for a trainee to help support our small team that provides a wide range of services from bookkeeping to management accounting and advisory / support services for clients including start-ups and small companies and individuals.

The successful candidate will have strong numeracy and communication skills and in addition to receiving full tutoring with our tutoring college (BPP) and attending courses and preparing for exams, they will learn how to be a professional accountant in practice and will be brought up to speed with statutory accounts preparation, preparing Corporation Tax and personal tax returns and other accounting tasks. A key part of the role will involve working with cloud accounting systems (e.g. Xero and Quickbooks), communicating with clients as well as working closely with our small team in a friendly, professional environment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of financial accounts for Companies House and for HMRC
  • Preparation of Corporation Tax computations and returns
  • Ensuring correct year-end adjustments and accounts disclosures
  • Gaining a detailed understanding of businesses and liaising directly with business owners and management
  • Preparation of management accounts including budgets
  • Implementing systems and controls 
  • Later on in their training, the trainee will have exerience in making business recommendations to clients including tax planning, etc.
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Troubleshooting and resolving accounting issues
  • Preparation of personal tax returns for company directors and other private clients

Knowledge of accountancy obtained during the course of university studies would be an advantage, as well as excellent IT skills including confidence with using a range of software,
