Job Title
Audit and Accounts Semi- Senior
Main purpose of job
To prepare accounts, audit work and business tax computations for clients
Responsible for
Managing self; limited directional on the job training of more junior staff
Duties & key responsibilities
- Prepare basic period end accounts (including management accounts / financial statements) for small companies, partnerships, sole trade and LLPs using the firm’s preferred software applications with minimal review points from the manager.
- Preparation of more complex period end financial statements / disclosures for medium-sized companies and LLPs with manager assistance.
- Preparation of business tax computations pro-actively identifying adjustments for non-trade / capital items with supporting analysis and rationale.
- Attendance of year end audits to complete field work with guidance from fellow team members, including the attendance of stock takes and completion of sections allocated on the audit.
- Prepare company secretarial documentation for declaring dividends, appointment and resignation of company offices and PSCs and reporting the Confirmation Statement.
- Work to agreed timetables and regular communication of progress to more senior colleagues.
- Communication with clients to obtain information relevant to the assignment.
General responsibilities
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive data.
- Commitment to passing relevant exams within the given period.
- Apply regulatory, legal, professional and ethical standards relating to engagements.
Skills and abilities
- Strong grasp of double entry bookkeeping including journals, reconciliations and analysis to support the preparation of accounting records and identify / resolve bookkeeping issues in client records.
- Good working knowledge of Excel to prepare formula driven analysis and formatted sheets that can be shared as client deliverables.
- Ability to communicate and ask for help were required.
- Passion to develop new skills.
Experience
- Previous experience of working in an accounting or finance environment.
- Experience of working within a team.
Knowledge
- Computer skills: MS Office applications - Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Strong GCSE and A level Qualifications with degree level 2:1 or above preferred although other routes will be considered.
- AAT qualified or part way through CA / ACA / ACCA
- Xero certified.
- Knowledge of IRIS preferred.
