Achieving my potential’ is BDO’s organisational framework. It is made up of 4 key elements – core competencies, technical competencies, values and attitude. In essence, what you do and how you do it.

A BDO client will generally have some short – term goals and a long- term vision- But standing in their way will often be a number of tax-related issues. Our Job is to act as guides through the complex, ever- changing landscape of tax legislation, to help our clients get where they want to be by the most effective route.

To do this, we must offer many different tax services. These include day-to-day compliance with the tax authorities, advice on employment taxation and international tax, transaction support for deals such as mergers and acquisitions, VAT services, expatriate tax advice and more. Such a diverse offering means we need similar variety in our team. We need specialists who can handle the most technically challenging and sector-specific issues, we need versatile and people-focused individuals who can field a wide range of questions from large owner-managed businesses, and we need brilliant innovators who can work on tailored solutions to address a client’s specific circumstances.

Our Corporate International Tax and Transfer Pricing teams are based in London and together form the foundation of our international tax offering to multinational enterprises across a variety of business sectors, from early stage businesses taking their first steps into or outside the UK, to global businesses with complex operations and structures all over the world.

Corporate International Tax

A role within this team would provide an opportunity to learn about all aspects of UK business taxation and to gain exposure to a range of international tax issues including the expansion of businesses overseas, minimising the overall tax burden on those overseas companies, tax issues arising from the repatriation of profits back to the UK, consideration of foreign exchange and withholding tax issues, and the changing international tax landscape following the release of the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Actions in October 2015. A role in this team will also provide an opportunity to be involved in projects for advising businesses on the UK and overseas cross-border mergers and acquisitions as well as internal corporate reorganisations.

Transfer Pricing

Transfer Pricing is a specialist area within international tax and an increasingly important tax issue for multinational businesses and tax authorities alike. Transfer Pricing looks at how transactions between related parties are priced as tax authorities will require businesses to price their related party transactions in accordance with the arm’s length principle set out by the OECD. BDO’s Transfer Pricing team is therefore a specialist team within our wider Corporate International Tax team which works closely with businesses to help design transfer pricing policies that are commercially effective for the business and supportable from a tax perspective, and to prepare documentation to support the policies in place.

BDO’s transfer pricing work is project-based and projects typically look at the ways in which businesses structure their operations, financing, and the development and management of their intellectual property. A role within this team would provide an opportunity learn about international transfer pricing principles and also to gain insight to how a business operates, structures its financing, develops and manages its intellectual property.

As a Tax Trainee your Programme you will spend 1.5 years working in the business while studying for your CFAB qualification
After this you will go on to study towards the joint ACA (Institute Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and CTA qualification.
